Y4/Y5 Residential to Camp Redwood
The residential to Camp Redwood was a great success. Camp Redwood is a site set up on the Thoresby estate by the Nottinghamshire Outdoor Education Team.
Activities children took part in included bush-craft fire-lighting, archery, orienteering, team games, art in the environment, tree and mini-beast identification and den building. Evenings were spent singing around the campfire, drinking hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows, before a night walk bat hunting.
The children learnt so many new skills and built on many of their learning powers including resilience, resourcefulness, reflectivity and reciprocity. We were really impressed with the dens built in teams by the children which we actually tested for stability and waterproof qualities.
A favourite game was “Shark Attack!”
Back in the classroom the children have been learning about the features of persuasive texts to enable them to write an advert encouraging people to visit Camp Redwood.
